Biwa Stick Pearl Necklace

Biwa Stick Pearl Necklace
Biwa pearls are freshwater pearls found in Biwa mussels. This species of mussels grows in Lake Biwa, near the city of Kyoto on the Honshu island of Japan. Lake Biwa is the largest and most ancient lake in Japan. Biwa pearls were extremely popular and harvested in surplus during the 20th century, today, pollution in Lake Biwa has virtually ended their harvesting.
These beautiful silvery mauve, pink Biwa stick pearls measure about 14-16mm. The pearls on this 16-inch, handmade necklace have an excellent luster and natural iridescence.
Because pearls are natural materials, appearances may vary from bead to bead.
